Hello all - thank goodness for travel advisor experts and participants - a bedrock!
I%26#39;ve reviewed suggestions for hotels and pensions. Have spent days and hous on line checking. %26quot;Good%26quot; pensions are booked.
I%26#39;m traveling on own (lady)- 4 nights in Vienna. Nothing much concerns me - I%26#39;m out and about all the time and the city is amazing. It will show itself so itnerary is no problem. Place to stay is. So many hotels and pensions - so many opinions. So confusing.
So help appreciated - I%26#39;ve gotten a huge deal at the Courtyard Marriott Messe/Prater(I%26#39;m USA so know what I%26#39;ll get) - 4 nights under $500. I%26#39;m on a tight budget but ned 4 star.
I don%26#39;t mind using public transport daily but is this place too far out of city center? . Is using UBahn at night a problem? Should I look further ?
If so - are Trend Hotels an option?
Thanks for input everyone!

So you%26#39;re looking for something under EUR85 per night? (it helps to put it in Euros - I had to look that up because I have no clue what the USD is worth now).
As a single older woman myself, I wouldn%26#39;t stay out by the Prater. I don%26#39;t like the area (it%26#39;s not that bad but there are better outer districts in Vienna) and there%26#39;s not much at hand for eating out in the evening etc.
I also have a rooted aversion to chain hotels so bear in mind that colours my advice!
I don%26#39;t know the Austria Trend hotels by experience but mostly the locations are not that convenient, hence the lower price. The AT reviews I have seen are not glowing. If I were staying in the outer districts I%26#39;d be inclined to try the 6th district (Mariahilf) or near Schoenbrunn, as areas that are convenient for getting around town and also have amenities close by (I like the Hietzing side of Schoenbrunn better than the Meidling side). So maybe the AT Parkhotel Schoenbrunn would be OK if you could get it within your budget. Considering the location, I%26#39;d be willing to give that a go.
Booking.com is offering the Kaiserpark SB in your budget - though that%26#39;s on the Meidling side, it%26#39;s on the U4 so well connected for the city.
For your dates (looking at Booking.com) my personal choice would be Pension Riedl which is in the 1st district in a quiet area stuffed with good cafes and restaurants. But it%26#39;s not 4 star. Ditto the Bajazzo, also in the first district, in a quiet business area, very slightly overbudget. I guess this reflects the fact I am more exercised about what is outside the hotel than in it!

If you%26#39;ve got a great deal go for it. The hotel%26#39;s only a couple of minutes walk from the underground station Krieau on line U2 from where the Ringstrasse around the city centre is a 6-10 minute journey (depending at which station you get off). No problems at all travelling this route at night. As long as you don%26#39;t expect a lot in the immediate vicinity of the hotel it%26#39;ll be fine. You wouldn%26#39;t need to walk through any of the less salubrious parts of the 2nd district.

The neighborhood, in which the hotel is embedded, is relatively new and modern as well as calm because of its proximity to solely residential areas (beside a few new office buildings). This area basically is/was not the most attractive one in Vienna but since subway line U2 was extended to the Vienna Stadium it is essentially better. Safety is no real issue although common sense is always a must. The 2nd district basically belongs to %26quot;Central Vienna%26quot; although we Viennese usually mean the 1st district if speak about the %26quot;center%26quot; or %26quot;oldtown%26quot;. As already mentioned by Norman, subway line U2 quickly takes you the 1st district (but U2 does not go straight through the district - it runs along or slightly parallel to the gorgeous Ringstrasse).
