Girls Holiday 4 days 3 nights...What should we do?

My friend and I booked a trip from Stansted, England to Salzburg and will be staying at Ante Portas in mid October. We are interested in seeing the sights...where to eat, where to shop, grocery stores, and best attractions.

We are not Sound of Music fans. We don%26#39;t plan on paying to tour Mozarts home. We would like to check out the Ice Caves or the Salt Mines. We are in our late 20%26#39;s and physically fit. We are on a decent budget but are willing to spend money for once-in-a-lifetime views, meals, or the like. I sincerely appreciate any advice anyone may have.

Thank you!

We are in Salzburg until Friday.

The salt mines are very worthwhile.

We did the Panorma tour of the ice caves. It also gets you into the Alps. The ice caves are incredible but very strenuous. In our group of about 35, six turned back because they could not climb the steps.

The Augustiner beer hall is a great place for good food, great beer, and a real beer drinking experience. The Steigel brewery is OK.

Worthwhile: the Fortress and the cemetary and catacombs below, Mirabelle gardens, St. Peters, Helbrun palace and trick water garden. A trip to Halstatt other lake cities.

Maybe: Motzarts residences.

Not worthwhile: the river cruise.

To save money, get the Salzburg pass for at least one day and see everything you can.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate your input. It sounds like there is quite a bit to see and do.

Salzburg is just beautiful! Not sure where your hotel is but it is a very walkable city.

You can see wonderful views from the Fortress and I would suggest taking the bus to St. Gilgen for a look at a lovely small village. From there you can take the ferry to St. Wolfgang and enjoy stunning views along the way. I have been to Salzburg quite a number of times and really have to say that day was among my most memorable experiences.

The salt mines are ok, but I enjoyed them more at 17 than I did when I visited a few years ago.

Views from the top floor of the Hotel Stein are very nice and it%26#39;s a good place for a drink - quite popular.

Enjoy!
