If anyone knows any good cheap accomodations it would be greatly appreciated!!! I somehow convinced my husband that I could get nice accomodations in Vienna, Prague, and Budapest. Well I have been successful in getting four star accomodation for $45 a night in Prague and Budapest but Vienna is a different story. Meanwhile I somehow convinced my husband to not go on another cruise in the Carribean and need to keep Vienna around $55 to $65 a night. We are ok without a four star...infact we just need a clean room with a semi-comfortable bed in Vienna. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

also should mention that we do have a car...so we are flexible with distance to the city. Thanks!

I can%26#39;t think of a good four star in Vienna for your price. I%26#39;m really surprised you%26#39;ve found a four star in Prague for $45 for two - are you sure it%26#39;s not the hotel%26#39;s own rating rather than an official one?

Yes it seems to be a four star. Got it on Priceline. However I dont need a four star in Vienna...just a good clean room. Thanks for any help

I assume you%26#39;ve tried Priceline for Vienna? One place that would be cheap enough is one of the Wombats hostels:
http://www.wombats-hostels.com/vienna/
Although they%26#39;re hostels they have clean double ensuite rooms for about $40 per night.
Otherwise tll us your dates and we can do some better research.

I had no luck with Priceline for Vienna in Sept. I bid up to $90 for a 4*. Others have been successful at $80-85 in this range so must be something happening, maybe a trade fair. I booked the Strawberry Hostel instead, we have a full sightseeign schedule and just need somewhere convenient to transport, food and shopping.

I%26#39;ve stayed at the Wombats Base hostel in Vienna (there is two, the other being the Lounge). It%26#39;s cheap and the rooms are very comfortable. Just a short trip on the metro to the centre of the city, there are restaurants and bars in the surrounding area.

Thanks for everyones suggestions! Not sure if we are still going becuase of work/economy concerns.

Trip is back on and I was able to get a 4* hotel on PRICELINE for $80 by bidding. This is a great deal since everything is in the $100 range. I was able to get the flight for $200 less by waiting until yesterday to book the ticket so I was able to save money there.
So far I am able to get the airfare, car rental, and all hotels (4* hotels all bid on priceline) for 10 days in the SPRINGTIME in Europe for the same amount of money that I would have spent going on a 7 day Southern Carribean cruise with airfare!!!! So happy that we have the opporturnity to afford going to Europe for our yearly trip!

Hi -
I%26#39;m impressed! How did you do this?
I%26#39;m going to Vienna from New Jersey (no such luck with ticket prices) on my way to Slovenia.
Am not worried about itinerary - the city%26#39;s great, will %26quot;show%26quot; itself and I have no problems reading and pestering the people at the tourist center for help and ideas.
BUT 3 questions:
I. I%26#39;m an %26quot;older%26quot; woman traveling on my own and need a clean, secure hotel, preferably 4 star , in an area close to the city center(I%26#39;m out and about all the time) - same budget issues. Dates: Oct 8/9 until the 12th
So many options - hard to choose if you have no clue about the city. Ideas - welcome and much appreciated.
2. Does anyone know how to access a less expensive air ticket to Vienna from Ljubljana? I can%26#39;t do the train. Adria air charges about $180 for a one way for a 50 min flight. Is that reasonable? Does anyone have any other ideas?
3. Is it worth the 6 hour train trip from Vienna to Ljubljana? The price is right - but the views etc?
Thanks much - please respond to gabi422400@yahoo.com (travelm)

1) You%26#39;re right that there are many options and so it%26#39;s difficult for us to recommend something without knowing the type of hotel you seek (facilities, ambiance, location) and your price range (and whether that has to include breakfast).
2) I%26#39;ve looked at a couple of price comparison sites and can%26#39;t find anything cheaper than the flight you%26#39;ve found.
3) The Austrian part of the journey is scenic enough, but I%26#39;ve never been on the Slovenian stretch. The journey needs a change of train in Villach.
