ski-in, ski-out near German border

I%26#39;m looking for a ski trip in Feb/Mar near the German border for (me) moderate level snowboarder and the wife and kids (beginnners). In the states, I prefer to stay at lodges where you can ski-in/out the front door to the lift, or at least walk to it from there. Are there any near the Germany border that you recommend?

Numerous choices

Not far from garmisch-

Lermoos- nice family resort - depending on hotel choice good opportunity near ski lifts.

Berwang- south of Reutte

a nice quiet place-

Hotel Singer immediately next to a major lift- moderate skiing and good beginning facilities for family.

Some hotels near to the ski school area.

Added new lifts this year will add to enjoyment .

for better skiers good ways down toward the village of Bichelbach.

A shop selling some of the best schnapps too.

Seefeld just across the border passing Mittenwald- good family opportunities for beginners and also intermediates.

Depends on the number of days you want to stay and whether or not you are a type of skier/boarder who gets bored if you%26#39;ve skied all the runs in the first day. That aside from where you live it is the same distance to Seefeld (via Garmisch) as it is going via Munich - Inntal Autobahn to Alpbachtal (therefore you could consider all resorts along the Inntal for the same distance travelled). Seefeld is a nice place for beginners with the skischool in the centre of town with their own drag lifts

Alpbach, while a beautiful village is not a ski-in ski- out resort. Access by ski bus needed.

Vertical - I listed %26quot;Alpbachtal%26quot; as an indication of distance travelled. Not as a recommendation. I could just have easily said Brixlegg but thought it was more relevant to use a skiing area.

Sometimes a choice of resort is a compromise. Resort altitude/snow sure should also come into question if you decide to go in late February/March especially if you are thinking of booking early as opposed to a last minute decision. Bear in mind that late February you should also take into account the UK schools half-term holidays with respect to accommodation availability if you should choose a resort frequented by UK Tour operators.

If your kids/wife are in the beginners/kinderskischule this area is sometime located in the village away from the main ski-lifts leaving a quandary of where to stay (I know kids/wife always win) meaning you may have to get skibus/longish walk after dropping off family. Sometimes the main parts of the villages, although not that far, are separated from the main lifts by main roads/railways meaning that most accommodation is not so ski-accessible. There is also the question of price.

eg. In Ellmau the kinderskischule is very close to the village but it is about 1km to the main lift.

In Kitzbuehel the kinderskischule is next to the Hahnenkammbahn and accommodation very near the piste but will be more expensive.

St Johann in Tirol has a number of valley runs however the majority of the village is on the other side of the railway (last time I stayed although in the main part of town it was about 1 mile to the main lift). Saying that there are a couple of Hotels/gasthofs on the main piste (may need snowchains to access the hotels). However St Johan is a lower altitude resort and very sunny and therefore very susceptible to warmer weather later in the season. Last time I went late february I chose to ski a lot at Fieberbrunn because of the state of some of the pistes (some grass skiing in St Johan)
