best place to stay: saalbach or hinterglemm???

hi!

we are planning to visit saalbach-hinterglemm next winter.

there are 6 of us, age 26-27.

we have found some pensions inside saalbach and some inside hinterglemm... but we dont know which village to choose :(

what is the main difference between villages?

what you can recommend?

which village do u like more? and why?

I have never stayed in neither as live close by. But I go there for skiing a few times per year (Saalbach-Hinterglemm is part of the Kitzbueheler Alpen Skipass).

imo Hinterglemm is a little more exklusive, quiet and expensive than Saalbach. Saalbach is the place to be if you are into Apre ski (e.g. Bauer´s Skialm).

If you prefer a more quiete holiday chosse Hinterglemm.

I think Saalbach is about twice the size of Hinterglemm. Logically both are part of the same, excellent ski resort.

Hope I could help

Formerly these small towns were just a short distance apart in the same valley.( maybe 2 Km. ) Now they are really coming together as more and more building occurs.

You pass Saalbach first and then directly into Hinterglemm.

They share the same ski circus.Same lift tickets and same transfer services to /from airport etc.

Saalbach has a very busy town square always seems conjested - much apre ski, nightlife, and some guests are known to complain of late night noise not allowing sleep. Obviously they not wanting to be in the numerous late night places.

Apre ski really begins in the mountain huts and both have good places just above them. Quality of accomodations about the same.

Thus little to choose between each .

Agree that Hinterglemm may be a little more quiet later at night but still enough nightlife. Also less conjested other times as only traffic for Hinterglemm there. Saalbach must put up with those passing through to Hinterglemm and more important day trip skiers who stop there for a days skiing and add to the lift passengers in the morning time. Seems less waiting if any in Hinterglemm.

Perhaps your decision may end up to be -best value of accomodations and if it matters which one most convenient to the lifts.

If only late nightlfe matters choose Saalbach.

Thank you MotherHulda and vertical a lot!

after reading your opinions, it seems to me that Hinterglemm is a bit nicer (for me).

but we found a better accomondation in Saalbach (in terms value and price). so we would stay in Saalbach :)

Have fun!

Me and my family and family friends went to saalbach jan 09. where we stayed it was quiet. it was a chalet hotel owned by a small british ski firm called ski miquel (www.miquelhols.co.uk). it was situated just past the bank in saalbach. but me and friends being 18 we rarely stayed at the chalet after 9pm until about 2am. in hinterglemm we found a hotel that had been built in only a few months. 5 star, don%26#39;t ask how much it costs to stay there i don%26#39;t want to know. hoping to visit saalbach again next jan. i%26#39;d say its the best ski area i%26#39;ve been to in all 7 times i%26#39;ve been skiing. hope this helps oh yeah nightlife is great as long as you don%26#39;t stay in the centre, lol.
