Lake and mountain region

Hi everyone,

I’m sorry for a probably stupid question, but I got a bit confused by different recommendations. What is the name of the Austrian region famous for its lakes and mountains?

We are planning a trip to Vienna, and then really looking forward to renting a car in order to travel around the country and see the beautiful nature...

Could someone give us a tip where to head from Vienna in this case?

Not a stupid question-

You most probably refer to the Salzkammergut.

This a famous region of lakes and mountains east of the city of Salzburg.

Various lakes in this area offer much to the visitor. They are listed on the above website.

Many visit this area as it is easily reached by bus, train, car from Salzburg and easily reached from the autobahn from Vienna to salzburg.

You may wish to begin your journey in this region by exiting the westautobahn ( A-1) at Gmunden.

This almost immediately next to the autobahn and on Lake Traunsee. From there many other places are quickly reached with all manner of pleasures available and a great selection of accomodations too.
