Does anyone know if there is anything planned or any tradition for New Years Eve - 31 Dec 2009 - in Klagenfurt and also of a nice reasonably priced hotel between there and Althofen for this time? Any guidance would be gratefully received - I would like to bring my 72 yr old mother from South Africa here for a visit.

the city has a full day and night of activities in the old city city including fireworks.

All cities and many many towns offer entertainment options - preferably in their centers. Klagenfurt is definitely not the party destination of Austria (just because it is small) but you can definitely expect decent entertainment and a great mood.
