Renaissance Hotel- closing

Hopefully no one has an existing reservation at the Reanaissance Hotel Congress Center Salzburg, not too far from the train station.

I believe the hotel is going bankrupt and closes business.

Travelers with reservations or thinking of this hotel be warned.

just returned from 2 days there...things looked fine and were working well. The area and the buildings around it are empty. Sorry to hear this.

Too bad. I stayed there in July. It%26#39;s a very nice hotel with good staff and a fantastic breakfast. It seemed busy when we were there.

We have rooms in October prepaid through Priceline. You really gave me a %26quot;heart attack%26quot;. I just got off the phone with them and they spoke with the Manager of the hotel who said that they are not closing.

Hope he is telling the truth and that you are wrong.

For your sake I hope this could be true. But , I only report what i have read in several newspapers including the Salzburger Nachrichten, which is highly regarded one of Salzburg itself.

The hotel filed for bankruptcy on September 3. with the Salzburg Provincial Court.

Several meetings of politicians including , I believe the Provincial government and also federal ministers, were scheduled at the hotel for the middle of September making a potential mess.

According to news reports , the Bankruptcy Administrator , appointed to handle this matter, has said that the hotel would be allowed to stay open until the end of these meetings and then close on the following day.

I remember this as it is an unusual thing but politics is at work.

Again this reliably reported in the news just in the past few days.

Unless something has drastically changed I would be very careful and watch this for your protection.

Just found your message. I hope this assists you.

Perhaps make a back up set of reservations elsewhere just in case this does happen.

I use PL often but I doubt very much they are privy to happenings in Salzburg and, if they were, I would not expect them to be forthcoming until they have no option.

I use pre-paid reservations quite often to save money and always use AMEX as they are the best recourse in situations like this.

I use visa because it gives me cancellation insurance, but I don%26#39;t know if this is covered.

I called Marriott and they said that even though we booked through Priceline, they have the reservation number and info and should the worst happen, they will cover us.

Will keep you posted.

UPDATE:

Just received an e-mail from the Front desk manager of the hotel, as a follow-up from Marriott Customer Care Service and he says the reservation still holds even though it is after the council meeting.

Hope there is no change.

Latest update:

Thanks to Vertical, I have been checking the Austrian Times and it seems now that the hotel will remain open. What a relief!

Great News!
