Saltmine, Five Fingers View Point, Lake cruise

My friends and I would be in Hallstatt on 22 September and leaving 12 noon on the next day. Wondering how much time would be required if we were to do the mine and 5-fingers view point? Also would there be any lake cruise available during September?

Thank you.

The salt mine is something different than the five fingers which you can find on Dachstein/Krippenstein.

You can reach the salt mine by a cable car next to the village, then a short walk to the salt mine entrance.

For Dachstein/Krippenstein mountains you have to get by car/bus to the cable car in Obertraun. The cable car is in operation daily from 8:40-17:00.

At the first stop you can walk (short but steep) to the entrance of the giant ice cave. Tours (German and English) every hour, you get a number for the next tour at the cable car station. Mind that the walk inside the cave involves maaaaaaany steps and can be hard for older people or young children. Temperature is just about 0 °C, so take warm clothing.

The five fingers is about 20 minutes walk from the second station (Krippenstein). The walk is easy, just wear good shoes and mind that it can be quite cool. Views are really breathtaking! Only do it with good/okay weather conditions, it is an alpine area. Take some drinks with you. There%26#39;s also a small lodge serving meals and drinks. At the 1st stop there is a restaurant.

I%26#39;d say you will need at least half a day for the salt mine or five-fingers+ice cave. For the five-fingers only allow about 3 hours (cable car takes about 15 minutes, departures every 15 minutes).

Some information on Lake cruises:

During off-season, the timetable is very limited. Website of lake Hallstatt ships:

If you are really into taking a small ship, you can get the ship to the train station on the other side of the lake (the station can%26#39;t be reached by car) and take the same ship back to Hallstatt. Gives you nice views of the village.

Many thanks Robbi.

We%26#39;re coming from Salzburg. In this case would it be better for us to take a train or bus? How many hours would be needed?

THANKS!

The best is to use the austria-wide route planner called %26quot;SCOTTY%26quot;. It has data of all means of public transport in Austria (except of the ferry between Hallstatt railway station and the village... but ships leave some minutes after the train%26#39;s arrival).

The stop for the cable car to Dachstein/Krippenstein (giant ice cave and five fingers) is called %26quot;Obertraun Dachsteingondelbahn%26quot;.
