Planning a 2 day stay in Vienna...If I%26#39;m already seeing Versailles, is it still worth is to go to Schonbrunn or just stay in the city center?
|||
Well, Versailles is hard to top but I would not dismiss Schönbrunn because of that. Moreover it is easily reachable by subway in less than 15-20 minutes from the center. I would refrain from an inside tour though.
|||
If you don%26#39;t fancy a tour of the rooms at Schönbrunn after Versailles then I%26#39;d definitely give the state rooms at the Hofburg a miss though the Treasury is a must see.
|||
for me Versailles was a bit disappointing not the castle itself but the gardens hardly any nice baroque flower decoration at all, so for that I prefer Schönbrunn or even more Schloss Belvedere.
|||
If I do Schonbrunn, and the Hofburg Treasury, would that take the whole day?
|||
If you%26#39;re not doing the Schönbrunn interiors then probably not.
|||
Why go to Schonbrunn Palace and not enter for a tour?
You can do this easily with an audio guide and take as little or as much time as you prefer.
A visit to the palace and the perfect gardens with a good atmosphere.It is the most visited sight in all of Austria and for good reasons. Not the same as Versailles.
You can tour this in a few hours. Most recommend a half day for this visit.
The Treasury can be done in less than 1 hour, so both easily seen in a day or less.

That%26#39;s a plan ---- Schönbrunn in the morning and the Treasury in the afternoon.
However, as was also suggested, Belvedere is nothing short of fabulous! It is my sister%26#39;s favorite palace in the whole world, and if you knew my sister, you%26#39;d understand why that stands for something.
However, let me really complicate matters and suggest Schönbrunn in the morning and the Kunsthistorisches Museum in the afternoon. I think these two compliment one another much better for a new visitor to Wien.
Oh, you%26#39;ll return to Wien, so don%26#39;t fret. You%26#39;ll eventually see it all.

I was also disappointed with Versailles after schonbrunn...
Schonbrunn will take at least half a day...

YSFlight,
Shoenbrunn vs. Versailles: maybe, I expected too much of Versailles (I had already seen Shoenbrunn and many other palaces by that time), but it didn%26#39;t impress me enormously. It was interesting to see, but it didn%26#39;t take my breath away. So, I%26#39;m FOR Shoenbrunn.
Shoenbrunn vs. Hofburg: personally I like Shoenbrunn better. Hofburg seems to me sort of %26quot;ordinary%26quot;, while Schoenbrunn, although not dazzlingly luxurious, is beautiful, cozy and even %26quot;homey%26quot;. So, I%26#39;m FOR Shoenbrunn again.
If you go inside the castle, I advise you to take an audio guide. I found it brief (about 1 hour) and not boring or overloaded with details.
I agree with the poster who said that you can do Schoenbrunn in the morning and Schatzkammer (Treasury) in the afternoon. Just check the opening hours of the Treasury and keep track of time - one gets carried away by the castle of Shoenbrunn and its beautiful parks. =)
I wouldn%26#39;t visit Schoenbrunn and Kunsthistorisches Museum on the same day, though. Kunsthistorisches is huge and, in my opinion, should be seen in parts. I think that Shoenbrunn and Kunsthistorisches one after the other will just overload you with impressions and make you tired.
I wish you a pleasant trip!

I really loved Schönbrunn, it was stunning and the audio tour is very informative. I became fascinated with the life of Sisi, who seems to have had a very interesting life. There are posters all over town advertising a new musical based on her life. We got to the Hofburg too late to tour any of the interiors but we got glimpses of the Lipizzaner horses in the stalls through a window.
