We just returned from Vienna and wanted to post a brief report and thank for the direct or indirect help we got while planning our trip. We arrive in Vienna by train from Budapest. Took the Railjet and in less than 3 hours we found ourselves in Westbahnhof. The ride was very nice, fast and enjoyable. We went 2nd class, as advised on this forum, and was the right choice. I checked out the 1st class and the only difference I notice was the leather seats. We also did not reserve the seats; save your money, there is no need for that. Although the train was busy, not all the seats were taken. Above the seat there is an electronic screen that displays if the seat is reserved or not. Many seats were not reserved or other were reserved but not from Budapest to Wien. From the train station, the U3 to the Hilton StadPark was a breeze. One thing we realize is that there is no place to validate the tickets in the metro car; you need to do that before you get in the train. As a result we got a very nervous free ride to the hotel. The hotel was excellent. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful; they tried very hard to make our stay a pleasant and memorable one and they succeeded. Yesterday I receive an email from the hotel manager thanking us for being a guest in his hotel. I stayed in many great hotels and this is the first time someone email me to say thank you; this is called having class. We did a lot of walking, window-shopping; eat many great meals and too many sweets. Lots of Dobos, apple strudels and Sachertorte. We even manage to enjoy a nice dinner at Plachutta. One night we stumble upon St Peter’s Church were a free sacred music concert was taking place. The vocal and organ music was just outstanding. We visited the Schonbrunn Palace and attended a Mozart concert at Musikverein, both very good choices. From the Hilton we took the S7 train to the airport which was fast and comfortable. I don’t know how the CAT is but the S7 worked perfect for us. Vienna is a 1st class city, we enjoyed it immensely and we are already talking about coming back some day soon. Thanks again for all (too many to mention) who took the time replay to my questions or replayed to others who were asking the same thing I wanted to know.

Dobos is a Hungarian dessert, very sweet and very good. If you Google Dobos Torte you will get the details. Every night we would go for a walk in the general area of Stephansdom Cathedral and seat at one of the many outdoor cafes. We tried a different dessert every night. They are open late, some till midnight and everything we tried was delicious. Good luck with your trip, I am sure you will have lots of fun, Vienna is a wonderful city!
