we have just stayed in Stumm at the Gasthof Marzenklamm run by the family Pfister. We had a most pleasant stay in this small hotel, which is prettily situated by a small river and waterfall. Our flower filled balcony overlooked both of these.
The guesthouse was spotless, the staff poltie and helpful, and the food simple and delicious.
We found the village and the surrounding valley (Zillertall) delightful with plenty to do and see. Stumm is a quiet backwater but has a supermarket and bars, cafes etc.
Newmarket used this guesthouse as an %26#39;overflow%26#39; and I hope they use it again as it was perfect and we found it a better base than Fugen for what we wanted to do.

Good to hear that you liked your stay in Austria. Accommodation assessments are ideally placed in the respective section of Tripadvisor in order to make it easy to be found by others.

I was very happy to read your posting and thank you for taking some time to do this .
The Zillertal is one of my favorite places and often comment here about it.
I was just there this past week and found some new snow above 1500- 1600 meters.
So many nice villages as you experienced to enjoy a fine and reasonable vacation.
I find Fugen very conjested especially in winter.
Some other nice places in the valley such as Brandberg, Ginzling, Hippach ,Schwendau offer fine, clean and not expensive accomodations.
Hopefully you visit this area again.
Have a look to the area between Fugen and Hippach high above the valley - the Zillertaler Hochstrasse
www.zillertaler-hoehenstrasse.at
This is a well maintained alpine road with fantastic views and many pensions, hotels and restaurants. Easily travelled in summer by auto or by frequent local bus service. The road in winter is well cared for and thus the area accessed year round.
Often you can stay in fine , clean and well decorated places as you have found and at most reasonable prices.
25-40 euro per day per person half pension finds good rooms and great food, many offered by friendly family owned places.
