Could someone advise on the best way to get from the airport to my hotel near St Stephens cathedral using the train and/or metro?

Take the S-Bahn train from the airport to Wien Mitte station and transfer to underground line U3 to Stephansplarz right next to the cathedral. Total cost €3.60 (2 x €1.80 tickets). You could also get the fast CAT train to Wien Mitte but this costs much more and is only 12 minutes faster.
