Train/S Bahn from Salzburg to MUC - how much time to allow?

We have taken the train from Salzburg to Munich before but never had to plan on a connection to get to our international flight.

We leave MUC at 10am. What time do we need to be on a train to Munich from Salzburg in order to catch the S Bahn and arrive at the airport by 8am?

And is the station at the airport in close proximity to the check in counters - we fly home on Delta.

We can also take the Salzburger Meitwagen shuttle service but will have to leave hotel about 5am so train might be any less convenient in this instance.

Thanks!

Access http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/e and define a certain arrival time at Munich Airport (e.g. 0800). The system will then find itineraries matching this criteria. I guess you need to leave Salzburg around 05:30 in the morning but let%26#39;s see what ÖBB suggests. Munich Airport%26#39;s S-Bahn Station is centrally located subsurface between the old and the new terminal. Due to the terminal%26#39;s elongate shape a little walking may be involved.

Best is to check yourself as there can be differences in the timetable depending it is a working day or weekend!

Choose the language you prefer on the top. Have you heard of the Bayern Ticket already (only an option if you travel Sat-Sun as valid after 9 am)?

The railway station (Munich Airport Terminal) is situated between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 (Terminal 2 for Star Alliance flights), I%26#39;d allow about 5-10 mins to get from the station to the check-in counters.

It shows a connection via Munchen Ost on the S8 with the train departing Salzburg at 5:47am.

Platform 6 is the arrival platform for the train from Salzburg to Munich and the connection is only 6 minutes to get to S8 on platform 5. I know the U Bahn is underground but is the S Bahn then actually right next to where we would arrive from Salzburg?

And would an arrival at the airport 2 hours ahead be sufficient? We are fortunate to be in Business class this trip so the check in is usually quite efficient at MUC.

Thanks!

S-Bahn is a suburban train that runs on regular rail tracks. You will probably have to change platforms which can be done in about 2-3 minutes. If your train is late, just catch the next one! 2 hours is more than sufficient, especially on Business Class... but check with your airline for check-in times.

I think the door-to-door shuttle from Salzburger Meitwagen should make more sense since you don%26#39;t have to worry about all the transfers involved. Otherwise, you%26#39;d still have to head to Salzburg station to start and transfer at Munich so you are unlikely to save any time in my opinion. Using the shuttle, if you leave at 5:30, you should be able to get there no later than 7:30. I wouldn%26#39;t want to leave any later if it%26#39;s on a weekday.
