Transport pass in Vienna includes Tram 1 & 2??

Hi, I am confused about Trasport passes in Vienna?

I am planning to buy a 48 hours pass in Vienna. Does it exist?

Also does this pass include rams 1 %26amp; 2?

I am totally confused. Thanks in advance!!

Why are you confused? All lines may be used with any ticket. You probably refer to the recent story concerning route changes of tram line 1 and 2. Formerly both lines solely encircled the city centre (tram #1 clockwise/tram #2 counter-clockwise), while they now originate and terminate anywhere else and only pass a section of the ringstrasse (=main boulevard encircling the city centre). The conclusion is that is now impossible to fully encircle the ringstrasse without a transfer.

In order to make money, the transportation authority in conjunction with the Vienna Tourism Board have recently established a yellow-coloured tourist tram which is not included in any ticket or pass. The use is pretty expensive in my opinion but you additonally receive comprehensive information on the sites passing by.

You can get a 24 and 72 hour ticket, but unless you are planning to do a lot of travel it is better buying a few single tickets at €1.70 each (or €2.00 if you buy it on the tram/bus.

Why should it not include trams 1 and 2?

The trams 1 and 2 that runs round the ringstrasse does not do a round trip anymore. You may have to make a transfer halfway.

There is now a vienna-tourist bus(bright yellow), it is called the vienna-ring tram. It starts at Schwedenplatz and ends at the same station. Please take note that the first trip of the day, starting at 10am for the above train will start at %26quot;Oper%26quot;. Subsequent trips will start from Schwedenplatz. You can get off and on with the 24 hours tickets, you get a headphone with seven languages. I think it does not stop directly in front of the places of interest but at the ring stations which are near the places of interest and then you walk.

Cost of tickets for vienna ring tram

24 hour combi ticket(including zone 100) 14 euros

24 hour ring tram ticket 9 euros

1 ring tour (1/2 hr tour) 6 euros. Not allowed to get off and on the tram. Good if you just want to orientate yourself with the city sights.

As for the vienna card, the cost is 18.50 euros, i thk for 3 days, vienna card is convenient and gives discounts on some entrance fees to places of interest. It is a cost saver if you intend to travel on public transport everyday of your visit.

It all depends on your budget and time. Hope this helps with your transport plans.

Sorry, forgot to say that the vienna card cannot be used on the vienna ring tram.

Also if you are staying longer there is a 7 day unlimited ride pass available for only 14Euro at the following website:

This ticket is not available more than a couple of weeks in advance, and is also only valid Monday to Monday.

Thanks a lot to all of you! So to sum up I am thinking: Since I am there only for two full days. My hotel is also v close to Hoel Sacher. So I feel I will visit Hofberg, St Stephenes cathedral and shopping lane first day so probably after this I mght take one round trip of ring tram ie 9 Euros and next day I will be going to Schonbern palace so will buy a round trip tkt. In this case no eed for any type of card. What do you suggest? It it ok? Or I shall work on some more sight seeing and passes?

|||

You are correct, you could walk to everything except Schönbrunn. I don%26#39;t think the Ring Tram is worth 9 Euro to me, but it might be to a first time visitor. I would suggest spending the money on a guide book - you could walk the most interesting parts of the ring and get a better experience without the tram.

Thanks so v much In25. Your suggestions mean a lot to me. Finally I am going to explore on foot. And take a round trip to palace.

If I remember correctly the ring is only about 3 miles (5 km) around, so it is not a difficult walk.

Enjoy Wien!

Hi TA experts,

Just to tag on to this post since there is already an active topic on this...

Assuming if I board tram 1 from Schottentor and transfer to tram 2 and back to tram 1 again to make a full ring tour (without getting out of the tram station), I only need to pay 1.80 euros (which is the price of a single ticket)? Or at each transfer, I need to buy a new ticket?

Just weighing whether there is a need to buy the 24-hour travel pass.

Thanks!

Cheers,

Christina
