Vienna strauss and mozart concert

Can anyone please give info? We%26#39;ll be visiting Vienna early April 2010. We%26#39;d love to attend Strauss and Mozart concert. Is the Kursalon OK venue? Isthe seating %26quot;flat%26quot;? I%26#39;m also a bit concerned about the dress code. We will be travelling Europe for the previous 3 weeks. For that trip we won%26#39;t need anything smart. Any tips please?

Several venues for this type of tourist oriented concert in Vienna.. As the market for these concerts is for the tourist , you will find all manners of dress with usually many in casual clothing. Most all like you are traveling and have most probably similar wardrobe limititations.

My recolection- the flooring is flat with a slightly raised stage for the orchestra.

The Kursalon makes a nice venue for this evening being a well known place at the edge of the Stadtpark for hosting various musical events. It was renovated a few years ago.

- this is not the Opera and Musikverein - You never see those seated around you again .Go, enjoy the show and wear what you like and feel comfortable in.

Thank you for the response and advice!

Two weeks ago we attended a Mozart concert at Musikverein and was very entertaining. Cost 56 euros (if I remember correctly) with great seat. We dressed casual and it was fine. Most of the people were dressed the same and quite a few were wearing jeans.

I should note that the concert mentioned at the Musikverein is not one by the famous orchestras of Vienna, but rather by a group that rents the venue for this series of tourist type concerts.

Yes, casual for these. But the normal offerings by the Philharmonic, Symphoniker,Tonkunstler orchestras would find most in better attire as fits to the offered programm.

I must make a comment regarding any one thinking it is possible to compare in any way a Mozart Concert mentioned above and the Vienna Philharmonic or really mentioning both in any other way other than they may perform in the same venue at times. Certainly the quality of music is not in any way similar.

One -the Vienna Philharmonic is rated by music experts and critics as one of the best in the world.

It musicians selected by competition over an extended try out period. This insures the highedt possible standard of musician. It has a long history ( 160 years plus ) of optimal offerings.

Its conducters - a Whos Who of the music world-Von Karajan, Bernstein, Abbado, Maazel, Harnoncourt, Mehta, Ormandy to name just a few.

Specially selected instruments including the strings and trumpets.

A waiting list of 5-7 years for subscription tickets in a city that has a long and historic music history with many knowledgeable music lovers of varying degrees.

Superb and varied programs.

The Mozart Orchestra - 20 year history 30 musicians ?

similar programms during their mostly summer tourist season.

Local ticket sales by a high pressure costumed sellers that mass by tourist sights- ignoring locals that pass by and prey on the unsuspecting tourist. They often making misleading claims at best in my opinion.

Offering tickets at prices that in my opinion do not reflect good value compared to cost.

The members of the orchestra dressed in wigs and period costumes, an often less than well mannered audience. Music product ? Some may consider it good.

I do not consider this to be good or quality music. music presentation or good value.

Tourists should recognize it for what it is.

For a tourist that is a casual visitor to this music it is at best an OK and perhaps enjoyable evening. But they should know that better music can be found and often at lesser prices.

My opinions, my music preference, my hard earned money paying for a ticket.

Stoofer I don%26#39;t think you and Vertical will agree on this one!

However, Laurel said she paid €56 for her seat and I have to say that for this type of concert, even in a venue as famous as the Musikverein, that is too expensive. For their next concert their tickets cost €42-79 whereas the price range for the Vienna Symphony Orchestra concert is €19-69. For the Mozart Orchestra%26#39;s price you could get reasonable seats for the Vienna Philharmonic, the St Petersburg Philharmonic, the Slovak Philharmonic at the same venue, decent seats for the Staatsoper and best seats at the Volksoper.

So, although the Mozart Orchestra concerts may be perfectly decent musically, they are very over-priced compared to Vienna%26#39;s other musical offerings! They are indeed a casual concert with a very highbrow price tag!

Hi Stoofer. I wasn%26#39;t saying the playing was rubbish, just didn%26#39;t think it was good value for money. I know you didn%26#39;t compare the orchestras - nobody seriously would. But think about it, €56 would get you best seats at most West End shows, a ticket for Old Trafford or any other Premiership venue or a year%26#39;s membership of the National Trust so for entertainment it is not remotely cheap. And you can get tickets for all of the other Viennese concerts I mentioned - somebody has to buy them! It%26#39;s not a lecture or a ticking off for anyone, rather advice to the many others who may read this thread that there are much better concerts in town to see. Just as you rightly said that you didn%26#39;t compare the MCO to the VPO nobody said or implied that you%26#39;re thick - your DE status and 7000+ posts amply show that you%26#39;re not!
