Vienna to Krakow

Hello

We are touring Europe on a bus this year, and will be two nights in Vienna - we would like to visit Kracow and Auschwitz but only have one full day)

Is this possible? (how far is it?)

Thanks

Going by train to Kracow (Krakau) takes at least 6 hrs one way, so there%26#39;s no chance to do it in one day. Go to

-- www.OeBB.at -- for train connections.

Hi Again

Thanks Bill

I%26#39;ve just discovered we can get an overnight train departing Vienna at 9.57 pm and arrives Krakow at 5.48am - so then we can get to Auschwitz and return to Krakow for a train ride back at 3.40pm - arriving 10.02 pm - we should just be able to do it.

How long does it take to drive a car- and what are the road conditions like? How easy is it to drive from Vienna to Krakow? - would you rercommend that we hire a car instead?

Thanks

Sorry, don%26#39;t know anything about road conditions there. The distance might be about 450 km, try

-- www.ViaMichelin.com -- or -- www.Map24.com --

for details.

If you want to rent a car make sure that the company agrees to drive into Czechia or Slovakia and Poland. As far as I know there%26#39;s a higher rate of car theft.

Thank you, Bill - a big help - many thanks

Twizzle, did you make the trip from Vienna to Krakow.

What was it like and what did you do in Krakow?

I am trying to make the trip in sept and am trying to figure out if I want to fly, drive or train. Would love to hear about your excursion.

thx.

I am going from vienna to krakow and was wondering if it is easier to drive (with someone who knows the way) or fly.

Hi skier,

how was your trip to Krakow? Road, air or rail? W@e are planning a trip that includes Vienna - Krakow and we´d love to hezar your opinion.

tks

Get the train. Car is very expensive, and even more so as Austrian car rental companies will typically charge much more to bring your car into the Czech Republic or especially Poland - and then you will have to bring it back again otherwise you will incur prohibitive drop-off fees. It will also take longer than the train and you will probably get lost on the way - you don%26#39;t really want to drive in Krakow (or indeed anywhere in Poland) if you can%26#39;t speak Polish or if you don%26#39;t enjoy taking your life into your own hands :) It is quite a rollercoaster ride.

There is one direct day train, leaving at 14.33, arriving at 21.19, but better is the direct night train, leaving at 22.33, arriving at 06.22 - this is better because you save on a hotel room for the night. It will cost ABOUT 65-70 Euros including couchette supplement, a bit more for a sleeper, but a couchette is quite sufficient, and it arrives at the same time as the sleeping car.

for train times, look at www.idos.cz or www.oebb.at

didn%26#39;t spend much time in Vienna but loved Krakow and wish we had more time. 4 days would be great to have there and LOVED the hotel: Hotel Copernicus
