Best train connection to Bad Gastein

I%26#39;m planning to travel to Bad Gastein in June 2010, but can anyone tell me whether it%26#39;s cheaper and more convenient to take the train from Salzburg airport or Munich? It looks like the train is quite expensive from Munich but not sure if that%26#39;s correct.

Is it also better to book train fare in advance or to buy the ticket once off the plane?

Thanks

As Munich is farther away from Bad Gastein than Salzburg is, the train fare is logically higher. Any train connection ex Munich would bring you to Salzburg first. If you visit www.bahn.de and inquire fares, then bargains (savers) should be displayed if available. You could also contemplate purchasing the %26quot;Bavaria Ticket%26quot; which is valid on all regional trains in Bavaria (incl. S-Bahn in Munich). It is valid throughout Salzburg because Salzburg is still a valid station in the network of Deutsche Bahn DB. Beyond Salzburg you need a ticket of ÖBB. But if you can get a flight to Salzburg, then the above is pointless. Austrian domestic tickets are ideally purchased before departure as the price does not change towards the departure date.

To go from Munich to Bad Gastein you don%26#39;t have any choice but to go through Salzburg. So if the flight to Salzburg doesn%26#39;t mean a serious disadvantage for you, it would make a lot more sense.
