Christmas markets

Hi,

Could you please tell me when the Cristmas markets are open? We are planning to come from 7 till 10 of December and we don%26#39;t want to lose the markets. Are four days so much for Salzburg? Because, after Salzburg we are going to Vienna and we will have only two days for the capital. We were in Vienna for a week last year, but not at Christmas. So, what do you recomend?

Thanks in advance.

The Christmas markets in Salzburg open in late November so they will be in full swing when you are there. I would say two or three days would be enough for Salzburg as Vienna is a much bigger city and you might need more time there.

I love Salzburg and have spent a good deal of time there over the years.

Last year we spent a week there, cutting short our stay in Vienna to return to Salzburg instead. If you love gorgeous scenery and wonderful day trips, then Salzburg is a great choice. We visited St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang one day, took a boat trip on Lake Koenigsee another with a visit to Berchtesgaden on the way back, Hellbrunn another morning. All by public transport.

And we were there the same time of year for the Christmas markets as you will be.

Vienna is a large city with much to see and many cultural opportunities. For us, Salzburg is simply magical at the holidays and we will return again and again.

The best market by far is at Schloss Hellbrunn,go early evening for great atmosphere. The market in the centre of Salzburg is good too. My husband and I visit Salzburg at least once a year. Vienna is O.K in comparison to Salzburg, it%26#39;s a nice city break, but Salzburg is something else, more compact, quaint and picturesque. Good base for daytrips in the country too. I would spend longer in Salzburg seeing as you%26#39;ve already been to Vienna.

Helbrun is not open every day so be sure to check. It was closed when we visited, on a weekday last season.

Thanks you all for your answers. I am very glad that Christmas markets will be open that days, so that i can have a good taste of the Christmas atmosphere in your town...
