Hotel Kolbeck

Is this a good hotel? I know that it is older, that%26#39;s ok.

What is the neighborhood like?

Thanks.

What are the defining characteristics of %26quot; Good %26quot;

This is an older 2 star place along a major shopping street that can be very noisy.

Perhaps you find this hotel by price rather than quality as it offers relatively low rates. But in my opinion, the hotel must offer a lower rate to attract clients.

It is located south of the city center, but is near to the UBahn and streetcars that allow easy and fast transfers to city center and major tourist sights.

It is in a neighborhood of lesser quality stores catering to the population of the area.

Certainly not a dangerous area but not vey pleasing to the eyes or ears.

In my opinion, I believe that you could find better lodging in the city.

You can read some reviews about it here on Trip Advisor. I would not consider the rating number as I really do not understand this system. It seems just a popularity contest of numbers of recent rewiews and in some cases here and many other places can be easily manipulated by those wishing to do it.

Following on from Vertical%26#39;s advice about reviews on TA I would suggest that you give little weight to those reviews, good or bad, by people who have made only one or very few contributions to TripAdvisor. To check this click on the blue name of the reviewer. For example the first two reviews of the Kolbeck are by %26quot;Hotelgast2%26quot; and %26quot;Karmkarmkarma%26quot; both of whom have only made this one contribution to TA. The second one is particularly suspicious as the poster gives their domicile as %26quot;karmkarm%26quot;!

By contrast the third review by %26quot;RenatoNole%26quot; is more reliable as this person has reviewd several hotels in a variety of locations.

The Kolbeck%26#39;s in an OK area. I stay near there when visiting my family in Vienna. As Vertical says there is a major secondary pedestrianised shopping street (Favoritenstrasse) nearby. Just round the corner from the hotel is Columbusplatz where there are a couple of decent bars and restaurants. Tram O runs past the hotel door and underground line U1 which takes you directly to the city centre is just on Favoritenstrasse.

If you let us know your budget and dates we may be able to make other suggestions.

Thank you for your reply. My cousin has already made reservations for us, I just wanted to check it out a little more.
