We are going to Villach Austria and would like to find a cheap but clean place to stay near the train station. It has to be within walking distance of the train station. It can be just a room in a pension. We%26#39;ll be there on the 27th of September.

Villach is a rather small town with less choices as you may expect. Considering your constraints (train station, clean, cheap, walking distance) it will be hard to get a hit. In my opinion the oldtown with its main sqaure is still in walking distance to the train station. In addition, the main square is much nicer than the vicinity of the train station. At the main square you find a few %26quot;traditional%26quot; hotels/pensions like this one:

The tourist office recommend the Goldenen Lowen (Golden Lion)as the cheapest central hotel. Its just off the main square in the old town, about 10 minutes%26#39; walk from the station. I stayed there last week without booking in advance.Its quite a cosy traditional and unpretentious inn with bar and restaurant. Rather pokey single room but I imagine that, as is usually the case, doubles are much better. Single B%26amp;B price was 42 Euro.The tourist office(very helpful and English speaking) is between the station and the old centre, just before you cross the bridge over the river Drau.
