I%26#39;m hoping to visit a new Christmas market (to me!) this year and would appreciate some guidance.
Firstly is this market worth a visit?
Secondly I can see from the Schloss web site that it is open on Monday 7th December and Tuesday 8th December but I cannot find any opening times. Does anyone know the opening hours please?
I can see that the 71 tram will take me there from town - is it a long walk from the Zentralfriedhof stop which I assume is the closest?
Fianlly - if we go - are there any nice places to eat and/or drink some beer near (walking distance)Schloss Neugebäude? I%26#39;d like a traditional Austrian place.
Many thanks,
Jeff

Know little oof this market as it is out of the way compared to other Markets more toward the center.
This is an old Schloss, I think now owned by the city of Vienna. last used as a military storage area.
This market last 4 days from the 4th to the 8th.
Most markets like this probably open about 10 in the moring and o to 6 or 7 in the evening.
More of a locsl Market I believe. Is it worth it ? up to your interests. I think better elsewhere.
You can use the U-3 to the end statio Simmering and then take the #71. Several stops are by the Zentralfriedhof.Probably the most convenient is the Tor#2 stop - then cross the street and walk toward and past the Crematorium and cemetery of that area - behind this area , you will find the Schloss- 10 15 minute walk perhaps or maybe the bus 73 A found at the end station of the U-3 Simmering would be easy too. This may be a little closer but less frequent service probably.
Across the street from the Zentralfriedhof you will find several cafes serving OK food. These often frequented by those making a trip to the Friedhof.
Note that the 8th of December is a reliious Holiday( Immaculate Conception ) here and you find many making outings on this day.
For a special Christmas market visit
out of the city - both interesting
Schloss Grafenegg
www.grafenegg.at
their Advent market well known and attended by thousands.
A shuttle bus available from Vienna this open December 5-8 .
Or you can take the train in the direction Krems. Get off at the station Wagram/ Grafenegg. Then the Schloss is about a 2 kilometer walk . Often a horse drawn wagon meets the train in the past . Do not know if this happens this year.
More than 100 good exhibitors with numerous offerings of good quality both in the schloss and outside in the Park. Normally a music offering for the attendees and much more including food offerings.
Also excelent is the Market at Stift Gottweig just across the Danube from the city of krems.
This open November 28 - December 8.
A visit to the Abbey, Church, exhibits and rooms with fine quality artisans offeringg wood carvings, quality clothing , glaas and decorative items.
The Stift also has a fine restaurant with views over the valley and the Danube.

I think!
This a little harder to reach but a fun trip.

Many thanks.
Are all of the shops etc shut on the 8th?

Most tourist sites, museums and restaurants are open that day, many shops too as they look for business.
Banks are closed.
