Train from Vienna to Znojmo

Does anyone have experience taking a train from Vienna to Znojmo. I googled----but got conflicts, such as 60 miles apart ---then 100 miles apart.

Can%26#39;t quite figure out the timetable, looks like you must change trains and possibly walk to the next stop? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Peggy

They%26#39;re about 60 miles apart. You can get a direct train from Wien Mitte station that takes about 1 hour 45 minutes, but at the moment, due to building works, part of the journey is done by bus. The trains run every two hours and you should be able to just turn up and buy a ticket. Check the timetable using the Austrian Railways website:

http://www.oebb.at/en/index.jsp

Itinerary Planer of Austrian Railways ÖBB:

http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/e

Trains currently terminate in Satov where a bus meets the arriving passengers in order to take them to Znojmo. At the end of November, when the elecrification of the railroad between Satov and Znojmo will be completed, then you can go to Znojmo directly.

Thanks so much for the info. I%26#39;ve already gone into the timetable you suggested. It was exactly what I needed. Thanks again, Peggy

ÖBB also offers a promotional fare of 12€ (return only) to attract cross-border traffic. The 12€ ticket is even cheaper than a regular oneway ticket, so get it in any way.

Wow--that is great to know. Thank you very much --I will check into it. Peggy

Hi Norman,

I%26#39;m trying to check into tickets on the web site you advised but I don%26#39;t see any area to get it in English

I%26#39;m trying to find out the cost of a ticket from Wien Mitte (as you advised) to Znojmo.

I also found info on getting a Vorteils senior discount card (I am 62--daughter is 34)--will this card really save me 50% of the ticket cost? Can%26#39;t quite figure that out either as the application for this card on line is also not in English.

Also I was given info on this site about a promotional one way ticket that is cheaper then a round trip. Do you know how I can get that, if cheaper then Vorteils, as we must make three trips to Znojmo from Vienna during our stay.

Also, someone must meet us at the Znojmo train station. Since the train from Vienna stops at Satov and a bus from there to Znojmo--where does the bus arrive at in Znojmo? At the train station or a bus station. I can%26#39;t seem to find that info out. If you do know where it stops and can give me an address so I can pass the info on will be appreciated

Thanks again,

Peggy

Hi Peggy. The website opened in English when I clicked the link - don%26#39;t know why you%26#39;re not getting that.

The Vorteils cards are only available for Austrian residents, so they%26#39;re out. The €12 fare Mikey quotes would seem to be your best bet. I don%26#39;t know much about it, but I%26#39;m sure he%26#39;ll pick this up and reply. If not, I%26#39;ll prompt him!

The bus will go to the railway station - it has to as some people may need to transfer to another train.

Thanks Norman,

I%26#39;ll try the web site again for ticket info---but great to know the bus will stop at the Znojmo train station, thank you very much --hopefully Mikey will let me know where or how to get the 12E ticket.

The mentioned 12€ ticket is much cheaper than the regular fare, so no need to acquire a Vorteilscard. It is available from ticket counters and ticket machines. If using a ticket machine, you need to select the EUREGIO button, then the country and finally Wien%26gt;Znojmo. Znojmo (Satov)-bound trains can also be boarded at Wien-Praterstern. As the bus service replaces the train, it stops at the station in Znojmo.

Thanks Mikey--

Now I%26#39;m confused !!!

I read about getting the Vorteils card in a book I got. I asked Norman about it and he mentioned above, that the Vorteils card is only available to

Austrian residents. Is that not true?

Hopefully your info is correct and I will get the Vorteils. Is this card only for senior discount or for my daughter also----and thanks for all the details involved in the ticket purchase.

Also,

is the Praterstern stop to Satov/Znojmo actually called Praterstern Bahnhof (U)? I had trouble when trying to get timetable and this was a choice given for Praterstern.

Thanks again,

Peggy
