Car Rental - Salzburg to Vienna

We would like to rent a car in Salzburg and leave it in Vienna. Are there any suggestions for an economical rental agency that may not charge a surcharge for dropping off in a city other than the one that the car was rented in. We have tried Hertz and Avis, but they have very hefty surcharges.

You could try the regional firm Sixt.

they are well known here

www.sixt.at

or a consolidator that works with many rental companies for best offers

www.autoeurope.com

this firm used by many vacationers.

If you do not plan for stops and sightseeing on the way along this route- ( much to see and do )the train is a quick, efficient and not extra expensive alternative

I just checked with Avis ( http://www.avis.de/Default.aspx ), using their German website, and found for a Peugeot 207, five days in November, pick-up Salzburg, drop off Vienna, EUR 265.63. I don%26#39;t see an extra charge coming off, when I change the drop off back to Salzburg. Online booking also includes the cost of winter tires in the quoted price.

We just had a car from Avis (Vienna) two weeks ago, and no complaints at all. We did however return to the same location.

I would contact them directly and get a definite reply.

If you plan to travel between Salzburg and Vienna without stops in the countryside, the train is the way to go. Fast, comfortable and not expensive. Usually 2 trains per hour, ticket from the ticket window or ticket machine just before you go (seat reservations only needed if you are a larger group and want to sit together).

For rental cars, there is usually no one-way fee inside the same country. The price listed online is the price you pay. All taxes are included in all prices anywhere in Europe.

I have to agree with Robbi. If all you are doing is driving from Salzberg to Vienna, take the train. It%26#39;s a nice short train trip. If you planm on %26quot;wandering%26quot; from one place to another, rent a car. Also, if you are thinking of keeping the rental car while you are in Vienna, check out the cost of parking. Vertical wa right about Sixt - very good rates. Also EuropeCar. We have rented from both of them and gotten great rates. I believe they both have offices in the train station in Vienna.
