economycarrentals .com RiIP OFF

If you use economycarrentals .com you can expect the same rip off experience I felt when I recently entered a contract to hire a car with them for my holidays in Italy. I had to pay €140 extra.Otherwise, I was told, I was not covered for a plethora of conditions and the excess was €5000. This was by Locauto who acted as agent for Economy Car rentals .com even though Economy Car rentals .com advertise Unlimited mileage Third party insurance Fire Insurance with NO excess CDW-Collision Damage Waiver with NO excess ASC-Airport Service Charge where applicable ,VAT All local taxes .

EconomyCarRentals.com also state that some car rental companies might offer extra insurances upon delivery of the car, which is not necessary to buy as EconomyCarRentals.com will refund any excess paid.

Not so according to Locauto.I tried to sort this out but Economy Car rentals.com blamed Locauto and Locauto blamed Economy Car rentals .com .and guess who ended up out of pocket!!!!!

So my advice is BEWARE and dont use Economy Car rentals .com no matter how good the deal seems.

I think their problem is that if they advertise the full cost of thier insurance they will turn out to be more expensive than their competitors. and they know that ,as they are based in Greece ,they are unlikely to be taken to task. I hope in the next few weeks to lodge a complaint to the European Commission in an effort to stamp out this sharp practice.

As your issue is with a car rental in Italy, it would be more appropriate to post there rather than the Austria Forum.

Mike,

You%26#39;ve got a good rental company in Dublin - ArgusCar Hire.com

|||

I was wondering why their tariffs were so low compared with other companies ; but now I understand . Thank you for this valuable infomation .

|||

I am so glad I read this post, as we were going to use this company for our car hire in cyprus at christmas as on their site it worked out about £160 for ten days, but now I think I shall look elsewhere.

|||

Thanks, I was looking into using them for Czech Republic. They were much cheaper and heavily promoted the %26quot;No Excess%26quot; angle. I too will look elsewhere!

|||

I have also used this company, but have quite a differnt experience.

The thing with them is that the FDW (Full Damage Waiver - No Excess) is granted by them, not a local company that they cooperate with. It is written in the local terms and conditions on their page.

I booked in Lisbon, and as I was also suspicious about the low rates, I e-mailed and called them several times to make sure what the deal is.

If a car is damaged, you need to call the police and have a report from them, as well as a report for the local car rental company. The local company will charge you for the damage and Economy will refund it when you send them the documents they need.

Worried as I was about it, luckily I didn%26#39;t happen to have any damage.

Hope it clarifies the No Excess issue.

|||

Now that makes sense. Often these %26quot;rip off%26quot; threads are posted by people who don%26#39;t understand or too lazy to read the conditions.

To get back the excess, you have to send the below documents to Economycarrentals by post:

Theft or damage report and police report.

Copy of the rental contract.

Receipts of payment, to prove what you have paid, and your credit card statement wherewe can see which amount that was taken from your credit card.

--------------

At the destinations where you have to leave an excess deposit, most of our car rental partners will offer an extra insurance to cover the excess amount.

It is not necessary to purchase such extra insurance,....

I also used this company last month in Italy (Milan) and I was very satisfied with them.

I had no problem with economycarrentals or their supplier.

I think that it is very important to read the terms and conditions of each company before you decide to make a reservation.

When the clients have time to search on the web for the best prices (and write in the forums), then it is also mandatory (I believe) to read and the terms.

I read the local terms and conditions of this company before I book a car with them. They write the below important information:

%26quot;At this destination, for theft/ damages caused by you, the car rental company might charge you up to the excess amount: 450 Euro

You might be offered an extra insurances to cover the excess amounts. It is not necessary to purchase such extra insurances, as EconomyCarRentals.com will refund that kind of charges, but for your convenience you can of course chose to purchase an extra insurances locally to avoid any excess payments to the car rental company at your destination.%26quot;

Locally I was also offered to buy some extra insurance but I didn%26#39;t buy any and I didn%26#39;t have any problem.

The car and the service provided were excellent.

I have also made another reservation with them for Portugal on December and I am sure that everything will be as good as in Italy. I will inform you when I return from my holidays.
