Dear all,
we (couple, three boys aged 1, 5, and 8) are visiting Vienna for my wife%26#39;s 40th birthday. I am looking for a very nice restaurant to match the occasion. Not top notch like Steirereck etc. (too stressful even with well behaved kids), but more family oriented, preferably with Viennese cuisine.

Your question is very hard to offer good suggestions. With 3 children you need a somewhat friendly menu for them too and this may limit offerings
I provide some suggestions in various price categories.
Purstner
a Vienna favorite here - large portions of austrian style food - 1 adult portion may feed 3 kids as they are large - perhaps too casual an atmosphere but have a look at menu and photos- a good value in city center.

this an upscsale restaurant - the owner normally in the kitchen- relatively unknown to tourists .
A good menu but perhaps not the best for your kids - have a look

a good place and open all day so you can make an early visit if wished to help for the kids-
nice surroundings and just on the Ringstrasse

their sister restaurant Vestibul is excelent but perhaps not the best menu for kids.

a little more casual place than that of their city center restaurant liked by many . good menu open the full day and night so an earlier visit possible - an easy ride on the streetcar D close to their door -kids usually like this idea.
