Hi,
I am planning for a day trip on this coming saturday(3rd Oct 09) to Salzburg from Munich. I went to the DB Bahn counter and got to know that I can travel with the Bayern ticket which costs Euro 20 for the whole day with RE or RB trains. I got the train schdule already. My question is, can i also travel from Sazburg to Innsbrug with the same ticket? Or shall i purchase a new one? What is the cheapest way to get to Innsbruck from Salzburg and how long the journey took? Since I am going to Salzburg, I wanted to use the oppurtunity to see Innsbrug too in the same day. Is that possible? Kindly advise. Many thanks for the help :)
Regards,
Malar

Your Bayern ticket is good to Salzburg and of course for your return that same day to Munich on regional trainsas you have already found.
It does not apply to travel Salzburg - Innsbruck.
As the travel time Salzburg - Innsbruck would be 2 hours or more and with much to see and do in salzburg for the day , I really would not recommend trying to do bioth in one day.

The time you would spend on trains would almost equal the time you have for sightseeing. Better focus on Salzburg and enjoy the less time you have there. The only way it could work is if you start very very early (when the Bavaria Ticket is probably not valid) and if you take a fast train between Salzburg and Innsbruck (~35€). Logically you would return to Munich late (and supposedly exhausted).

Frankly I wouldn%26#39;t even bother with a trip to Innsbruck. Do you have a specific reason for going there? We were hugely disappointed. The city was drab and full of building works.

Hi...r u sure? I heard from ppl saying that it has wonderful landscape and u can get the swaroski crystals there. But luckily u shared with me. Thanks for the info. Will u suggest something else in Germany itself or even in Austria on the same day that I am going there...?

There is more than enough to see in Salzburg - why would you want to go elsewhere with the short time you have there?
|||
There%26#39;s so much to see in Salzburg that it will take all day.
Have you read the reviews on this site about Crystal World? Very mixed reviews.

Salzburg and Innsbruck on one day is not really feasible. Travelling would take too long and I have to say that if you got to Innsbruck you%26#39;d wish you%26#39;d stayed in Salzburg.
Salzburg has lots to offer. Just a tour round the fortress can take a while as the views are wonderful. Innsbruck is surrounded by wonderful mountains but the town is rather down-at-heel in comparison to Salzburg. Once we%26#39;d seen the Golden Roof we were ready to head back to Salzburg. The main street in Innsbruck had building sites on it and there wasn%26#39;t much to see. Salzburg has mountains, glorious baroque buildings, cathedral and many fabulous churches (St Stephens is so ornate), museums, lovely squares, river boat trip. You could take the No. 25 bus to the Untersberg cable car and go up the mountain.
Sorry to sound so negative about Innsbruck but I%26#39;d hate you to spend all that time getting there and then be disappointed.

Hi..
oh sure. I will definately. After reading all the above reviews, I am planning only to Salzburg on Saturday. But, on Sunday, i am planning to go to Berchhtesgadener-land to see lake köningsee and eagle nest. I am not sure whether its possible to go to Berchhtesgadener-land from Salzburg directly on the same day since its much more nearer to Salzburg compared to Innsbruck. But, if it is not possible, then I shall go to Berchhtesgadener-land on Sunday to spend my whole day there. What is your idea? Kindly advise. Is it worth going to Berchhtesgadener-land?
