I will be spending the last weekend (Friday to Tuesday) in October in Vienna . My last trip there was two years ago and I was able to see most of the sights in town. Is there anything special going on that weekend? Any ideas or suggestions for day trips? I won%26#39;t have a car, so I will be relying on public transportion.
Also, where%26#39;s a good place to go to meet some locals? I will be staying at the Hilton Staadpark and would appreciate some suggestions for local restaurants in the area.
Thanks in advance for your help!

If you refer to next weekend- Friday October 23 to Tuesday October 27-
several suggestions-
You should be aware that Monday October 25th is a Holiday here Austrian National Day.
While banks, shops are closed most tourists sites are open and this date is a signal for the last day of many summer- fall //schedules.
A nice day outing is the combi tour to Melk Abbey -- train to Melk a visit to the Abbey - the boat tour down the Danube and return from Krems to Vienna by train.
www.ddsg-blue-danube.at
This Danube boat cruise end for the year on October 26th.
Another nice outing is Schlosshof
www.schlosshof.at
this is a very nice complex of a summer palace, gardens , restaurants and exhibits.
A weekend bus trip is available there and back for 23 euro including admission.
The last tour of the sesaon is this weekend Blaguss Bus service leaves Schwedenplatz at 9:30 see website for details.
The roman ruins at Carnuntum are another possibility.
for dining - not a long walk away -
Purstner
www.puerstner.com
Cafe Oberlaa is not far away ask for directions at the hotel.
Also ask for a rooom not facing the current construction near to the hotel..

Wrong weekend but still much to do just outside of Vienna for a day.
Still possible Roman Carnuntum
www.carnuntum.co.at
also a short train ride to the wine town of Gumpoldskirchen
www.gumpoldskirchen
A nice small wine town with numerous heurigers to be found-
enjoy food and wine in a lcal atmosphere - chance to observe locals and perhaps some enjoyable conversation as the atmosphere leads to some good contact.
This less than 1 hour by local train - the train station Bahnhof is located by Wienerstrasse - just begin a short walk slightly uphill and you find things
Saturday and Sunday.
Also a short train dride of about 1 hour is Krems
www.krems.at
website offers descriptions of the town and walking tour possibilities
each saturday morning a nice small farmers market - this is a very friendly place - stop and talk with the merchants - no need to buy something - but the smell of cheese , meat etc. good flower decorations of the season to see too. make you hungry.just adjacent to it many sights to see - a good cafe too.Reimitz
Unfortunately the monthly antique market is only on the first saturday of the month.
many sights to see in the town easily walked . Gozzoburg one of the interesting ones.
www.gozzoburg.at
Also in the Stein area of Krems are some nice heurigers - wine taverns and in krems itself - some OK restaurants
sights and farmers market easily walked from the train station - service about every hour from / to Vienna
www.oebb.at
For Sunday a nice experience in Vienna
the Liechtenstein Museum
www.liechtensteinmuseum.at
one of the best private art collections in the world in a superbly restored former summer palace of this family.
Each Sunday concerts at 11 or 3 I think check website-
dining there also possible or various local restaurants nearby.
