Hello all -
I%26#39;ll be in Vienna for a five day trip next week, and was interested in doing some light hiking in the alps. I%26#39;ve heard that Semmering and Raxalpe are both accessible for a day trip from Vienna, but was wondering whether I%26#39;d be too late in the season to hike safely? Any experiences or suggestions on other areas to hike would be much appreciated!

Winter comes early this year. Many areas already have received good amounts of snow

I would not advise on hiking in unfamilar and possible extra cold and snow .
Possible alternatives if you just wish some exercise is to visit the Prater Park for comfortable flat walking . This ,you can find taking the UBahn U-1 from the center of Vienna to the Praterstern stop .
Or again by U-1 to the Donau Insel Danube Island that has extensive paved walking path ways along the Danube River.
If you wish a good day outside of Vienna , it is possible to do good walking through the wine areas of the Wachau. This being short way by train from Vienna. No snow covering.
