do you intend to book a package holiday or independent travelling. hiring a car or relying on transfers. Have you skied before. Will you require ski lessons, equipment hire etc. It%26#39;s always possible to find cheaper accommodation in a variety of places however costs of skipasses, equipment hire and lessons can bump up the price considerably. There are many resorts in Austria that are not offered by Tourist operators. Not sure who the Tourist operators are in Ireland (only found Topflight) but to get an idea of the differences you could look at a brochure for Austria and then have a look at something like www.bergfex.at just to see the difference. Remembmer that a skipass per day will on average be about 35 euros per day (some resorts slightly more some less)

The title of your request is confusing to me .

Do you wish a ski vacation near Vienna or one combined with a visit to the city.

You may find it hard to find a short term package as often these are for a week or more.

if you look for skiing in an environment near to Vienna

try Semmering

This about 1 hour by train away .

Ski schools, ski rentals accomodations available , often at lesser price than found in mountain resorts further west in Austria. Still an OK mountain with good opportunities.

www.semmering.at

Log cabins - chalets you may find expensive if on a budget.

Note the dates you pick - assume 9th to 12 th of february is a busy season ad this is winter vacation time for numerous schools.

Few visitors would know that it is possible to ski in the city of Vienna.

This slope is called Hohe Wand Wiese. It is in the northern portion of Vienna and can be reached by city transport.

While not big,it even has a ski school. It makes for a fun time day or night weather permitting.

I am not recommending this for a ski vacation but just little trivia.

well sorry for he confusion over my holiday, we are going to vienna and skiing whilst we are there skiing doesnt have to be near vienna......but we would like somewhere that accom is cheap and the food/drink etc is also good for a budget holiday..we will book things individually transferes etc and get our own ski passes, but if you think a package hol would be cheaper then its an option, but it might be cheaper to book as we go?

any resort suggestions would be good pls?
