luggage and customs for connection in Munich?

We will be flying from Charlotte to Vienna with a connection in Munich. Will we need to collect our luggage and go through customs before our connecting flight? We will have only and hour and ten-minute layover.

Thanks

Assuming you are on the same airline or ones with luggage agreements you do not need to collect luggage in Munich.

I think Lufthansa flies from Charlotte to Munich.

If your connection is with them or with Austrian you have no problem with luggage.

Just be certain in Charlotte that the luggage is properly taged to Vienna - airport code VIE.

You will proceed through passport control in Munich. This should go relatively quickly and your time frame should work, subject to the aircraft arriving on time.

If this does not occur , numerous other flights Munich - Vienna during the day

In Europe customs is carried out at the final airport of arrival. In Vienna you need to go through the channel for passengers whose baggage is not equipped with a green tag.

If your bags are tagged directly to Vienna, you just go thru passport control and to the gate for VIE.

Munich is a very good airport and there very seldom occurs anything unexpected.

Munich is a very convenient airport, especially the brand new Terminal 2 where all Star Alliance air companies are based.

Your luggage will go thru to Vienna where the customs officer can see that you arrive from outside the EU (EU luggage tags are green, others are white).

Passport check and (I%26#39;ve never seen it but it might happen rarely) hand luggage customs will take place in Munich.

Munich airport allows connections of only 30 minutes, so you have plenty of time.

You should be issued a boarding passes for your connecting flight all the way to Vienna at your first point of departure in the US. Upon arrival in MUC, you%26#39;ll have to go through a security check and

passport control.

The luggage will be checked through to Vienna, where it may or may not be checked (you luggage tags will be different from those originating within the Schengen zone).

This also means, no large containers of liquids, since you check in again in Munich for the connection to Vienna; ergo, no on board purchases of duty free on the first leg of your trip!! (keep this in mind for the return trip as well - get duty free only in Munich, after security check in).

We just did this flying USAirways from PHL to Vienna, changed planes in Munich. They checked our luggage through to Vienna and gave us boarding passes for both legs. The USairways rep in PHL told us we would have to collect our luggage the way they do in PHL, but that was not the case. We cleared immigration in Munich, then went to our gate for Vienna. We picked up our luggage in Vienna. You should have no problem. Enjoy

What a dumbass! Nowadays travelers partly know more than %26quot;representatives%26quot; in the service sector who should give correct advice on simple requests. Assuming that Europe handles baggage the same way the US does proves very less knowledge.
