Hi,
My husband, 11-month old and I will be in Austria for a week at the end of September/early October. He has a conference in Graz and we%26#39;ll be staying at the Hotel Gollner. I think it would be nice to spend a couple of days exploring another area, but we only have 2 nights. We love to hike, and really appreciate the beauty of the Alps. I%26#39;m intrigued by Hallstatt, but wonder if it would be too too far or too difficult to get there, and I don%26#39;t know much about the hiking around there. But I%26#39;m also considering a trip to the wine region, or to a thermal spa. We will not have a car. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Jenna

Hallstatt is actually not that far from Graz but I have no idea whether it is a good bases for hiking. The area itself is gorgeous because of the clear lake and the mountains in the background. A stay at a SPA would also be a great experience. You can find hotels in Bad Blumau, Bad Waltersdorf, Bad Radkersburg.

I will be in Graz for a few days later this month and would like to see spend some time outside the city.
Can anyone recommend a half or full day trip that would be possible by public transport?
I%26#39;m wondering about taking the train to Maribor, but would also like advice on places nearby Graz but within Austrau that are accessable by bus or train.
Thank you!
