How far is Salzburg from Melk

We will be taking a river cruise that stops in Melk, Austria for one day. Will be have time to go to Salzburg during this stop? If so are there any tours that we should consider?

Hmm, it is quite a distance, about 2:45 h by train which would be the easiest mode of travel. I don%26#39;t think that there are any tours, except from the river cruise company.

You can check the timetable at:

Train tickets are flexible, no reservations. You just buy them before you go from the ticket window or ticket machine, discount from the 2nd passenger on.

The travel time varies by train 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

But i believe to do this from Melk and return is impossible. The boats on this way , begin the day in the city of Krems, some travel time from Melk.

Most of these cruise boats spend just 3- 4 hours in such places as Melk. This gives the passengers time to tour the Abbey for example and then return to the boat to continue their journey.

I would check the proposed trip plan and you probably find something like this.

No time to allow your desire.

This is a common thing about the river cruises, as they most often spend limited hours in most smaller destinations.

Good advice above. It is most unlikely that the boat stay in Melk for any extended time . These type of stops are normally done in a few hours and then onward to the nest stop.

Unfortunately many cruise lines offer info on the stops but not actually the short time spent there.

I have read that some cruises offer optional tours to Salzburg , but I believe these are usually done from the city of Linz. I would see if you stop there and if such a tour is offered
