I am planning to take my wife to Vienna to celebrate her 40th Birthday and would welcome your suggestions on where to eat.
We enjoy fine dining, can you recommend somewhere romantic or unusual please?
Many thanks.

For the unusual but romantic-
Dinner for two on the famous giant ferris whell in the Prater- the Reisenrad.
Your own special car on the ferris wheel - multi course menus with wine and superb views of the city - not inexpensive but certainly a much memorable experience.

The Vestibul Restaurant
Located in a wing of the Burgtheater on the Ringstrasse-
superb surroundings with good food and service

take a fiaker - a horse drawn carriage ride with a bottle of sparkling wine that will drop you near to the door of the resturant.

Outstanding, this is just the type of thing I was looking for, thank you so much Vertical. Anytime you want to know about London or Cambridge in the UK do contact me and I will be more than happy to help. Best wishes.

Another vote for Vestibül - we just returned from Vienna (and Berlin) and I%26#39;ll remember Vestibül for a long tome - super location (directly across street from Neues Rathaus which is illuminated until about 10 PM), beautiful surroundings and superb food and service. We spent 3 very enjoyable hours there for dinner.
Another suggestion would be the great restuarant inside the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) - Österreicher im MAK - http://www.oesterreicherimmak.at/ueber_e.html
You can tour museum after dinner also.

The above posting reminded me of the Thursdsay evening buffet at the Kunsthistorisches Museum- Fine Arts Museum. Great for art lovers and a good way to see this museum open until 10 PM. ( 22.00 ) that night.
The Vienna catering firm Gerstner provides a fine buffet- reserved table for the evening - fine atmosphere tables in the Rotunda area of the Museum. Between dining visit some of the Gallery rooms of your choice .The cost of the buffet includes Museum admission.
They have a Sunday Brunch too

you can also go to the Sky Bar for Cocktail or Dinner
you have a great view over the Inner City

Regarding your commend about a horse drawn carriage? Is this something the restaurant organises? How can you get the champagne onboard?
|||
For the drinks- just go to any supermarket - Billa , Spar etc. or a speciality shop like Wein and Co.- Buy the bottle of your choice and take it with you. Gasses from your hotel or a cheap set from a local place.
You will find many carriages waiting for you at various places to tajke you on a nice tour- no need to reserve-
expensive but very nice way to see the various parts of vienna center.
Among other places you will find carriages at Stephansdom, Michaelerplatz, Heldenplatz, By the Albertina and more.
|||
Really? But will the horse and cart people disapporve of drinking on their carts?
|||
No problem- just do not give any to the horses-
The Fiakerman could enjoy a little however.
