Can someone please inform me of the appropriate attire for the Opera House? We are planning on purchasing standing room tickets and although this will not be a %26#39;night out at the opera%26#39; we still would like to look presentable.
We will be traveling through Italy the week before and as of now I have no plans to take a dress.
Kind Regards,
Leslie in Winnipeg

No dress code at the Opera.
If you will be in standing room- no problem with casual daily attire.

Thank you Vertical...I will certainly dress for the event, just wanted to avoid wearing %26#39;buisness attire%26#39; if everyone else was in ball gowns!

Most people dress up for the opera in Vienna, men will usually be wearing suits. In the standing-room, it`s more relaxed, please dress to feel comfortable and make sure you can get rid of a layer of clothes - it sometimes gets quite hot and ventilation isn`t great, especially in the downstairs standing area.
I recommend wearing dark coloured clothes, this way your casual attire won`t stick out too much when you mingle with the elegant crowd in the intermission.
