Majestic Imperator

The Majestic Imperator %26quot;dinner train%26quot; seems a pricey (euro 196.00) side trip from Vienna, with dinner and a tour of Esterhazy Palace. Does anyone have an opinion of thsi trip? Thanks

The Esterhazy Palace is located in Eisenstadt, the capital city of the Burgenland Province. It is actually a small town and not a city. It is only a city in legal terms. Eisenstadt is easily reachable from Vienna, so if the palace would be the %26quot;main%26quot; reason to do that, then do it on your own. If you also like sophisticated cuisine and music composed by Joseph Haydn, then take the train.

For less than half that price you could have what would probably be a much better meal at Vienna%26#39;s very finest restaurants. It wouldn%26#39;t be a trip I could justify personally especially as the journey would not be through very exciting countryside.

I would use your money elsewhere for a better evening.

My thinking is similar to Normans.

You have limited time at the Esterhazy, probably 1/2 of the total journey in the night darkness depending when you travel.

The views as you ride are not that great anyway. Unless you are a railroad %26quot; Buff %26quot; I would not recommend it.

This train service is not overly popular and I believe it is more used as a business evening or function site much more than a tourist thing.

With many good restaurants in Vienna with quality of food most likely better and certainly more comfortable service , you can enjoy a great meal and probably opera or concert tickets to complete the evening for similar price and have a more enjoyable experience.

Thank you all and I doubt I will be investing the time and expense on this. You have been very helpful.

Interestingly, I could find no other reference to this on the forums.

Thanks again.

I believe that some discussions about this train long ago.

Trip Advisor now seems to have a effort to close old topics and perhaps these are a victim.

For some gourmet restaurants - some of the best in Vienna

Steirereck

www.steirereck.at

Meinl am Graben

www.meinlamgraben.at

also supposedly to come in September a new gourmet place

Orlando di Castello

This to be located in Palais Ferstel on Freyung.

While not open yet- this owned ,the restaurant and the palais by the family Wlaschek.

Karl Wlaschek , the founder of the supermarkets Billa, later sold but still with a fortune in austrian real estate and much more.

Said to be the individual with greatest wealth in Austria.

Many things now placed in the capable hands of his son.

Herr Wlaschek , a good individual, clever but modest.

Formerly could often be seen playing the piano in his Cafe Central also in Palais Ferstel.

He insists on good quality and I am certain this new restaurant will certainly be excelent with fine attention to detail , service and quality food.

I read your separate identical posting on the forum and whilst I have much sympathy with your situation I hope you aren%26#39;t going to tack a copy on to every post on this forum that mentions restaurants!
