Can anyone advise me on how much time I should dedicate to seeing the canyons here?

This depends solely on the interest of the traveler.

It may also depend somewhat on the clothing worn if you cme during the end of september or october, the temperature can be very cool and many often get a little wet.

Many like to make many photos too , so take all this into consideration- most probably several hours total.

Note that this site closes at the end of october for the year.

Suggest you allow at least two hours or so. The path is only about 4 km long. Here are the Opening Hours:

1st May until 30th September 2009 from 8am - 6pm,

from 1st October until probably the end of October from 9am - 4pm .

best time to visit is around noon - start out at 11:00 or so. Wear decent boots and take some warm clothing.

As before a couple of hours or so should be fine.

Really beautiful spot just outside St Johann im Pongau (not to be confused with St Johann in the Tirol) and Alpendorf.
