How to choose a town to spend Xmas week

We are a party of 4 adults and 4 children (ages 1-12). We are looking for a stunning chalet type accommodation in the Alps where there is some snowboarding/toboganning/tubing(do they do that over there?) Mostly we are looking to rent a car and do a lot of sightseeing. Any suggestions on which town to choose and how to find the right accommodation?

With 4 adults and 4 children , I believe you need more than a car for transport - if you wish a rental a van is probably more appropriate but costly.

Christmas time especially that between Christmas and January 6th is one of the most busy and most costly times for a visit.

It would greatly assist in recommendations for you to advise of the proposed gateway airport.

Vienna is a good city to visit and with an international airport . But it is a long distance away from the better resorts - 3- 6 hour driving time

toward the western part of the country.

Munich is often much more convenient to a numbe rof resorts 2- 4 hours and also near to salzburg another must see for many visitors.

Chalets are in great demand for family vacationers at this time.

You perhaps can begin your search for places with

The resort of St. Anton has numerous and varied accomodations .

Also resorts south of salzburg like

Schladming, Flachau, Zell am See.

Most resorts will have skiing, snowboarding, tobagganing many fewer with tubing.
