Cesky Krumlov to Salzburg via Linz/Melk/Durnstein

Is the following possible, both logistically and timewise?

After two nights in CK, we are thinking of driving to Melk (via Linz) on 10/22, catching the 13:50 ferry that afternoon to an overnight in Durnstein. We would then return to Melk the next Day (10/23) by the 10:40 am ferry from Durnstein, pick up our car, and drive on to a stay in Salzburg.

My concerns: how long does it take to drive from CK to Melk? We need to be there by about 1:00 pm in order to get the car parked and our luggage to the ferry.

I%26#39;ve checked the Brander website, and the ferries run those days at those times. Do they have safe parking for the rental car?

Additionally, is there an easier way to do this via public transportation, given that we need to be in Melk by 1 pm?

Thanks in advance for all advice.

This is possible, but it would be nice to have one more day to spend inthis area.

CK to Melk should take about 2 1/2 hours .

The roadways in czech some times crowded with slow moving truck traffic and often just 2 lanes of traffic.

Linz to Melk goes quickly with complete autobahn driving - most except in the area of Linz with a speed limit of 130.

for routes and timing.

2 boat companies make this journey brandner as you mention

annd DDSG

both with similar prices and schedules. Check departure times , I think it is 13:50 ( 1 :50 pm )from Melk.

They leave Melk from docks very close together and arrive in Durnstein at the same dock just below the village.

Note that melk has two docking areas, one for the cruise ships of the Danube and the other for daily excursion boats - the brandner and DDSG.

Both entrances are not far apart.

The cruise boat area you cross a bridge to reach.

The excursion boats - no bridge and the entrance closer to a gas station ( BP maaybe ? )

I think some signs to help you too.

A large area to park yor auto near to these docks. While no notice for overnight parking,Your auto should be safe . A cafe and ticket offices nearby. You would have a very short walk to the boat.No trouble with luggage.

A auto is the best for this journey. It could be done by train and bus , but would take much longer.

Durnsten is a nice quiet village. Do your sigghtseeing in the afternoon- The Stift ( Church ) open ubtil 18:00 ( 6 PM )

shops will close perhaps a little earlier.

Visit the small graveyard and chapel too.

It is very nice to walk along the river promenede during the day and also at night.

The castle ruins and town walls are lighted at night to make a nice atmosphere. Schloss Durnstein and the Stift also.

The Alter Klosterkeller a good place to eat and in cooler weahter they have a fire to add to dining - good views of the vineyards and danube.

Some grape picking may still be underway.

For wine tasting

Domane Wachau is in the east part of the village.

Weingut Bohmer in the village main street and more littl eplaces too.

Note that Durnstein generally becomes very quiet in the evening. But if some cruise boats have docked , they often offer their travelers evening tours , so do not be surprised if you see a roup walking along.

If you need more info , just post again
