i am in innsbruck. wanted to go to stuttgart. via munich. saw bayern ticket on machine. is it valid for a day all over bavaria? also should i buy it after going to mittenwald.

Please visit the website of German Railways (www.bahn.de) and/or use the search function (ideally in the Bavaria Forum) to get detailed information on that. Yes, it is a day pass but also subject to a few restrictions you should familiarize with. It is not valid on the Austrian side of your trip. If you intend to interrupt in Mittenwald, then you can buy it there. You could also contemplate booking one of the discounted tickets starting at 29€ which allow taking faster trains (the ones stated in the booking!).
