hey guys
we%26#39;re traveling to austria next week. We plan to spend 4 days in vienna, then train to Salzburg (to spend 2 days there) followed by train to munich for 2 days . The question is:
Is there a specific advantage in booking the train tickets on line before we go as against buying them on spot or maybe from vienna after we get there? Can we just do the latter? help pl !

No, there is no advantage. In addition, read the advice I have given you in your first thread.

Perfect sir! Thank you!

I have just realised that you have altered your itinerary. Instead of buying a regular ticket between Vienna and Munich which would allow an interruption in Salzburg, purchase a regular domestic ticket Vienna%26gt;Salzburg and the Bavaria Ticket of German Railways DB for Salzburg%26gt;Munich. The Bavaria Ticket is a reasonably priced pass for 2-5 persons and much cheaper (28€ for all) as you may only use slower trains of the category %26quot;Regional%26quot;. The time you lose by taking local trains is only 30 minutes. Use the search button of the forum to receive more detailed information on that.

Hey thanks Mikey! Yes I did change the itinerary. Based on forum inputs we decided to skip Innsbruk and go to Munich for the extra 2 days we have. But still thinking also of the salzburg area road trips I have been suggested instead of munich! Not sure if I%26#39;m ok to drive... Thanks a bunch M !

Hmmm... actually there are advantage in booking your tickets in advance online. Use tip from europetrainsguide.com/200907166/Countries/Au…
But not exactly Wien-Salzburg... Book Wien-Munich or Wien-Zurich instead, it will be international ticket (start from 29 euro) and simply get off the train in Salzburg. It will save you almost 20 euro on each ticket ;)

Well, such a practice could also be seen as %26quot;misuse%26quot; although nobody would care. If I hadn%26#39;t the ÖBB discount card, I would eventually contemplate it too (although I prefer flexibility). I just would not say that this practice is %26quot;common%26quot;.
|||
Let%26#39;s call it - %26quot;punishment to OEBB%26quot; for not having discounted domestic tickets (like Dauer Spezial for DB)
|||
Heh heh! Sounds exciting enough to try out! Thanks guys- you%26#39;ll have obviously %26#39;been there and done that%26#39;:)

Nobody is ever going to check, and if they did, what are they going to do - tie you up in chains in the guards van until you reached Munich? :)
