I notice that there will operas will be screened outdoors on the Plaza while we are in Vienna in mid-late October. Will it be too cold? What is it like watching outdoors?

As you come from the cold north you should find it fine! Seriously, the weather will not be too cold for being outdoors. However, I doubt if anyone would be prepared to stand and watch the full opera on the outdoor screen. If you fancied that it would be better to buy a standing room ticket for the Opera House itself - they only cost €4 or €3 and would be much more clement than being outside! But if you%26#39;re passing and want to watch a section.....

Thanks! Some of my friends did the standing room and they recommend it.

I passed by there a few days ago and noticed that they put a couple of rows of chairs in front of the outdoor screen!
|||
Yes- they have chairs.

I presume nothing like as many chairs as they have in front of the Rathaus for the summer music festival. Do you have to come very early to get a chair?

Norman:
As you know the Rathausplatz area of chairs is really large and that is often filled.
The area by the Opera for the screen is really limited by the parking garage ramp, pedestrian zone walkway and more.
I have not been there for a performance but assume the seating must be limited.
Also knowing the Vienna attendees for anything free, especially the %26quot; Grandmother Corps %26quot; think any seating can be occupied very early. Of course they come equipped for the weather too.
