day trip to salzburg to vienna

Is it advisable to take a day trip to salzburg? I note the trains take 2 hours 40 minutes.We have booked our hotels in vienna for 4 nights.

If not would an over night trip to salzburg be the absolute minumum? After vienna we proceed to budapest.

Many make a day trip to Salzburg. Easily done . Salzburg , the old town ,is compact and easily walked by the tourist.

This not far from the train station. You can walk there or take a bus.

With a full day , you can see most all places of interest.

Frequent train service , so no problem with that.

Enough in Vienna to keep you busy for 4 days- depends on your priorities.
