Vienna in January?

I want to take a trip in January and wondered if Vienna would be a good place to be that time of year or sould I leave it for another time? Thanks for any advise you can give.

Personally, I would suggest you put it off a little - January (and February) are not the best months for visiting Vienna. It´s generally cold, grey and especially in January, there is not really a lot happening - if you discount the ice skating in front of the City Hall, which is quite nice. Museums and other sights will have business as usual, but you won´t really get to see e.g. the beauty of Schönbrunn Palace´s garden.

The plus side would, of course, be that as it is low season (from January 7 onwards, before that many people are still in town after the New Year Celebrations and school children as well as students are on holiday still), you would not have to fear any masses of people, but that I would call almost the only advantage.

Spring and early autumn are much better suited for true enjoyment of Vienna. Summer is fine, too - but can be very hot, so it depends on your preferences.

Yes the weather not the best .

But if you like museums , palaces, music, opera and the fun of Ball season Fewer crowds.

It is not a bad time to visit.

Even some discount perhaps at hotels and a little snow perhaps adds to the atmosphere.
