Vienna and Ljubljana

Hi all - the more I explore options, the more confusing...

I%26#39;m in the USA and want to go to Ljubljana via Vienna in a few weeks.

I%26#39;d like to fly into Vienna on Oct 7 or 8 and then to Ljubljana on the 12th. Back to USA on Sun Oct 18.

It seems it%26#39;s high season and most of the connections are challenging and expensive so I hoped you could advise on the least expensive ways to do this -

If I%26#39;m in Vienna how far is Ljub. by plane, car, train?

Cost?

I%26#39;m ok with flying through a different city - the only set thing is getting to Slovenia on my dates.

Would eb most appreciative for ideas and experiences.

Thanks - travel mom

In case of train ride best thing to do is to purchase in advance discounted 29 euro ticket from OEBB website (http://www.oebb.at/en/index.jsp)

thank you.

am looking into it. It takes about 6 hours - vs 1 by air but the differenc in price- compelling and I%26#39;m assuming, good views and just fun.

Thanks much

Haven%26#39;t yet browsed the Vienna forum re accomodations but any other advice - very welcome.

Again- thanks!

Well, you won%26#39;t be much faster by plane. The train takes you from city center to city center, so no need for long transfers. As there are no check-in procedures, it%26#39;s all smooth and fast.

Mind that you can also board the trains at Wien Meidling station which is often more convenient than the south station (Südbahnhof).

Thanks - I%26#39;ll go to Lubj. by train but return for my flight back to Vienna and USA by air - will never make it otherwise.

Am ready for any other sage advice....
