Short Stopover in Vienna Monday 21st September

I am arriving at Vienna Sudbahnhof from Prague on the above date at approximately 1500 hrs.

I have a train to catch from Vienna Westbahnhof at 1950 to Budapest.

1. How do I get from one station to the other and where can you buy the tickets - preferably a one day ticket so I can have a mini tour in the times between trains.

2. Are there left luggage facilities at Westbanhof so I can dump my case and how much are they?

3. I bought my Train Ticket from Vienna to Budapest online from OBB and printed the ticket out. As far as I can see it has not allocated me a seat reservation - however as it is in German I may have missed it. Do you need to reserve a seat seperately.

When I booked the train from Prague to Vienna on Czech Railways this was part of the booking process.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Ad 1) Tram #18 (direction: Burggasse). Get your ticket from one of the numerous vening machines placed in the station%26#39;s main hall. On the tram you can only buy single tickets which are additonally subject to a surcharge.

Ad 2) Yes! A few Euros...

Ad 3) No seat reservation required! Whether a seat is allocated depends on a few factors (discounted ticket with firm train allocation or not, reservation rules of a railway operator for international trains....).

Thanks Mikey,

Can you use the U Bahn rather than a tram to get between stations as I would rather not lug a case onto a bus or tram.

I do not know why I did not recommend the following:

Trains from Prague also stop at Wien-Simmering where transfer to subway line U3 is availabe. Just get your day pass from the vending machine at the ÖBB platform and then take the elevator directly to the subsurface level. Subway U3 serves Westbahnhof. By the way, many vehicles are now low-floor but this depends on the line and even then there is no guarantee.

Thanks for that Mikey!!!

Along the same idea. We will be travelling from train from Vienna to Prague on 25 Sept (Friday). Should we get advanced reservations (tickets) and where do we pick up that train?

Thanks

Prague-bound trains leave from South Station (East Wing) and DO NOT stop in Wien-Simmering. Information on ticketing has been given many many times. Please use the search function of the forum to get them displayed.
