Don%26#39;t take anything with you - just take euros from the cashpoint. Sterling will be of no use to you and will be expensive the change. Likewise changing sterling into euros in the UK.
The best exchange rate is always with the cashpoint - your bank may charge a small commission, but that is nothing compared to the poor exchange rate you will get in exchange offices and the commission they may charge (unless you are changing very large sums of money, in which case you can negotiate). If you have a Nationwide card then you don%26#39;t pay any commission, and with my Lloyds account I only pay £1 per transaction, for example.
