Please try to find most of the answers by using the search function of the forum as advice has been given numerous times on that. Finding a close-to-perfect accommodation is barely feasible, in any case it means a lot of research. Search for %26quot;apartment%26quot; in the Vienna subforum and a lot of matching threads should appear. The easiest way to Prague is definitely the train which departs approx. every 2 hours.

depends on your definition of %26quot;cheap%26quot;, and must it be an apartment?
the latter is usually rented by the week.
I picked up on a recommendation from Vertical and stayed recently at the %26quot;Pension Kraml%26quot; - good location and easy access to subway etc.
Excellent breakfast and IMHO reasonable at EU 76.00 for a double room with facilities en suite. Good beds and very friendly service. Internet access - and computer on premises. Small fridge in the room - something we like. Ask for a room on a lower floor - no elevator (but they will help you with luggage, if needed).
Travel to Prague - I%26#39;d think train travel is best. But I%26#39;ll let the Vienna experts explain. Plus there%26#39;s already a ton of info in this forum.

You have many opportunities to find an apartment in Vienna.
Contrary to the above , many will often rent for much less than one week. Others will offer a discount for longer stays.
The center of Vienna, known as the Innere Stadt or First District offers many good places.
Many like apartments here as you often have much more space , a small kitchen to prepare a meal if wished saving money or just having snacks.
A good place to begin your search for apartments

note the comments about the association and inspections.
Look to the First district or even 6th and 7th for convenient places.
Happy that a recommendation of the Kraml was found to be OK.
Other possibilities near to the center and major sightseeing.

Just outside of the center but easily connected by nearby UBahn in 5 minutes is the slightly more expensive

for sightseeing-
suppose you visit partly for the Christmas markets and this requires a good amount of time . many to visit -my favorites
Schonbrunn - nice to combine the market and a tour of the palace.
Market at Freyung square. music in late afternoon generally.
Market in front of the Kunsthistorisches museum- again you can make a combined visit to both .
The market at the rathaus - City Hall offers less than great things but is very nice with the adjacent parks nicely decorated at night.
Museum Quarter and its offerings liked by many..
Hundertwasserhaus.
Sometimes overlooked by tourists but very interesting
The Schatzkammer - Treasury- at the Hofburg palace- crowns , jewels, regalia holy Roman crown aand much more.
Also at the Hofburg is the Bibliotek - this is a magnificent collection of old books in a superb setting-
entrance on the left of Josef Platz not far from the Spanish Riding School entrance.
Be certain to visit one or more of the many cafes of Vienna. Not just a chance to relax but good pastry etc.
Some names
Cafes
Diglas, Oberlaa Central among others - these all in city center.
Stop by one of the kiosks selling Punsch or Gluhwien- you find them many places - some of the best at the Freyung Christmas Market and on Graben.
Kinder Punsch available for those not wishing alcohol.

you can even use their hotel search functionif you wish.
For a trip outside of Vienna- this time of year not the best for this but Melk Abbey is probably most enjoyed by visitors.
Great time to visit Vienna
