When I look up tickets from Venice Italy to Vienna it says this:
Book a ticket now from Venezia Santa Lucia to Wien Westbahnhof.
Your ticket for the journey from Wien Westbahnhof to Wien Mitte-Landstraße Bf (U3) can be booked
in a separate booking process for you to print out here on the Internet.
So I guess I need to purchase an additional ticket then too. Is that correct?
It%26#39;s an overnight train if that makes any difference.

Where are you booking this ticket? Go to www.trenitalia.com where you get the best available prices and no messing about. If you are looking on Rail Europe, forget you ever heard about them. I believe the prices start from €29 for a seat, but they go very quickly, so it would be more like €69 for a seat or €99/€89 for a 4/6 berth couchette - more for a sleeper.
Make sure you choose Venezia S. Lucia to Wien Westbahnhof (the train goes direct) However NB in mid-December there are due to be some major work going on in Vienna which might disrupt things. Someone else will know more about that than I do.

I am booking it on this site as it is a lot cheaper than trentilia

It is the same price whichever you book through - i.e. €69 for a seating place and €89/€99 for couchette.
If you book going the other way (i.e. Vienna to Venice) then it is cheaper (from €29)

You don%26#39;t need to purchase an additional ticket. Both stations are located in Vienna. Wien-Westbahnhof is a major station for national and international railway traffic, while Wien-Mitte is a centrally located interchange for local and regional traffic. Book your ticket to Wien-Westbahnhof and proceed by public transport to your final destinatíon in Vienna. Wien-Mitte is directly reachable by subway line U3 if you must go there.

Thank you Mikey--that%26#39;s exactly what i was asking.
