Not an expert on salzburg but can offer some comments.
Generally for cheaper food you must get away from the Old Town and thus the tourist center.
But every wednesday at the Sternbrau in the old town center - special pricing for Student wednesdays

Also many places have a midday menu - a fixed 2-3 course offering at good prices.
One good beer place outside of the center is Raschhofer

fixed midday menu at 6,50- 7 euro you find this summary of daily specials under
wochenkarte
also regular menu at good pricing and portions.
If the Andreas Hofer Stube on Steingasse is still there -this was a nice place for reasonable pricing too.
Perhaps others can recommend more.
